Memorial Day CeremonyThe Miscoe Hill Memorial Day Ceremony is Thursday, May 25 at 9:00 in the gymnasium. The Miscoe Student Council is looking to honor local veterans and those that have passed. 

Students going to Great East
The Great East Chorus and Band Festival is Friday, May 26th.  All students that are participating need to arrive at Miscoe Hill School by 6:45 AM.  Please see the attached document for a schedule and details about the day.

 Last Day of School
The last day of school this year is Tuesday, June 20, 2017, it is a 1/2 day. This is also the day for 8th grade commencement which will start at 9:00.

Lost and FoundPlease encourage your child(ren) to stop by the lost & found area across from the cafeteria if they are missing any items.  Parents and Guardians are welcome to come and look also but please check in at the office first upon arrival.

8th Grade Students NOT attending Nipmuc
If your student is not attending Nipmuc High School in the fall it is required that the Miscoe Hill office receive a completed record release form.  Nipmuc has begun to schedule for the next school year and the record release indicates that the student will not need to be scheduled at Nipmuc in addition to sending their records to their new school.  The form is attached to this email and the Miscoe Hill office is happy to answer any questions you have about completing it. Thank you to those who already returned the form to the office.

~ Memorial Day Parades ~
Students in grades 6-12 that are in the band program at Miscoe Hill and Nipmuc are expected to participate in the Memorial Day Parades in Mendon and Upton on Monday, May 29.  Complete information about the morning can be found here:  https://goo.gl/l2vQEM  Students that need to be absent from the parade for any reason should contact their teacher (Grade 6 - Mrs. Amitrano, Grade 7/8 - Mr. Amitrano, Grade 9-12, Mr. Harding)
 
 
~ Technology Focus Group ~
Our Technology Department, in conjunction with Boston College, will conduct a focus group on June 5th after school. We will need parents to be part of one focus group. If you are interested and can attend on the 5th of June then please email me at ameyer@mursd.org. We will contact you with more details once you have shown interest. It will not be a long meeting. 
 
 
~ Summer Jazz Workshop ~
Miscoe Hill will be hosting its annual Jazz Workshop week this summer from July 31st-August 4th in the Miscoe Hill Band room.  The workshop takes place from 9:00AM-12:00AMMonday through Friday with a performance at 11:00AM on Friday in the Miscoe Auditorium.  Our goal is to run two bands based on student abilities and instrumentation.  The cost for the workshop is $110.00 per student to cover materials, facilities and instructors. Registration is open for the 2017 Fall flag football, tackle football and cheer seasons. A $50.00 registration discount will be applied at check out if registering before 6/1. This does not apply to the Flag Football registration. Although registration will remain open after 6/1 teams will formed shortly after 6/1 so please do not delay in registering.  Baseball & Softball Games against Hopkinton today have been postponed to a date to be determined.  

7th and 8th Grade Pops Concert 
On Tuesday, May 16, 2017 at 7 PM, the Miscoe Hill 7th & 8th Grade Bands and Choruses, Jazz Bands, and a Capella group will present their annual Pops Night at Nipmuc Regional HS.  This family friendly event, complete with snacks and beverages will be a fun concert with familiar tunes and other light music. This will be our last in-school performance for the year and the suggested donation for admission is $6 for adults and $4 for students/seniors. Please join us at Nipmuc on Tuesday at 7 PM for this great event!

Teacher Appreciation
Please join us in celebrating our teachers and staff on May 18th for our Teacher Appreciation week lunch. The PTO will be providing coffee in the morning and then a catered lunch in the afternoon. All donation items have been accounted for, we appreciate the parent support to make this event a success.  You are welcome to bring in donations beginning on May 16th. Please label "Teacher Appreciation" and leave at the front office. 

Miscoe Hill Youth Theater
The box office is now open for the Miscoe Hill Youth Theater production of Korczak's Children on Friday, May 19th and Saturday, May 20th at 7:00pm.  Ticket prices are $7.00 for adults and $5.00 for students and senior citizens.  Please see the attached flyer for details and how to purchase tickets. http://www.ticketstage.com/T/MHYT

Board of Selectmen CoffeeOn Saturday May 13th 10:00 - 12:00 you are invited to join the Mendon Board of Selectmen for coffee and conversation at the Mendon Senior Center at 62 Providence Street.

Upcoming 8th Grade Events

Miscoe Hill Renaissance Faire
The annual Miscoe Hill Renaissance Faire will be held on May 19th.  The Faire will be in the 8th grade wing from 9-11 in the morning.  Stop by and browse the multitude of projects the 8th graders have been working hard on for the last month in their WEx classes.  Learn more about Renaissance, while tasting some fine 15th and 16th century cuisine.
Engineering Day
More details will be coming about the 8th grade Engineering Day on June 9th.
Field Day
Field Day is scheduled for June 14th.
Six Flags Field Trip
The trip is on Thursday, June 15th. The completed permission slip and payment should be returned to your student's homeroom teacher by May 17th.
Semi Formal
A reminder that the 8th grade Semi Formal Event is Saturday, June 10th.

MCAS Practice Test today
We will be conducting a practice school wide practice test today during fifth and sixth period. Please remind students that their iPads must be fully charged on MCAS days to be held after vacation.

Teen Trivia Night
Nipmuc Youth Softball presents another TEEN TRIVIA NIGHT! All Miscoe Hill students in grades 5-8 are invited to join in this fun and competitive Battle of the Brains on Friday, April 28th from 6:30-9:00pm. Students can form groups up to 6 people. It will be held in Miscoe’s lower cafeteria with registration starting at 6:30 p.m. and trivia beginning at 7pm. Cost is $15/pp and snacks/waters can be purchased during the event. Flyers will be posted up at school and those wishing to attend must pre-register by emailing their interest to FUNDRAISING@NIPMUCYOUTHSOFTBALL.COM. Once contacted, we will send out details and information needed. All proceeds for this event go directly to NYS to help cover expenses like equipment, umpire fees, tournaments and more.

April is National Autism Awareness Month and /April 2nd is World Autism Day. Celebrate by Lighting it up Blue!!
Autism is a lifelong developmental disability that affects how a person communicates with and relates to, other people. The range and severity of symptoms can vary widely. Common symptoms include difficulty with communication, difficulty with social interactions, obsessive interests, and repetitive behaviors. There is little known about what causes Autism and there is no cure. Currently, 1 in every 68 children are diagnosed on the Autism Spectrum. the best thing you can do to help child with Autism is to be a friend to them and help them to overcome their difficulties.

Please complete the attached permission slip and return it to Principal Meyer by Monday, April 3rd. Please include donation checks with the returned permission slips. Golf Tournament
Jim Grant's golf tournament fundraiser benefiting the Mendon/Upton Schools, Athletic Programs, Youth Athletic Programs and Nipmuc Warriors Booster Club will be held this year on Monday, May 15th at Hopedale Country Club. This year's tournament will be in honor of Linda Varney who has been so generous to the athletic programs for the past 40 years. If you can help in any way it would be much appreciated. MICCA
Congratulations to our 8th grade band and our chorus for competing in the MICCA Festival Friday and Sunday. Mr. Amitrano and Mr. Ferrari led their students to wonderful performances.

Welcome Ms. Steinberger
Ms. Steinberger will be taking over for Mr. Ferrari as he leaves for his paternity leave any day!

STEM
We want to thank Ms. Holloway and 20 of her 8th grade girls that participated in the STEM program at Regis College on Sunday. Participants were very impressed at what they were able to experience at the College.

Red Sox

Track & Field
The High School Track & Field Team will be practicing at Miscoe Hill today. Students that participate on the High School Team should be dismissed with walkers.

MURTA Run
